The Blue Zebra Angelfish, a dazzling result of selective breeding, captivates with its vibrant blue hues and bold, zebra-like stripes. Consequently, this semi-aggressive fish adds flair to any aquarium. Originating from South America, it thrives in warm, hard water. Furthermore, its unique coloration makes it a prized choice for hobbyists seeking rare variants.

Size and Lifespan

Blue Zebra Angelfish start at around 5cm, growing to about 15cm. With proper care, they live 8–10 years. Therefore, providing a stable environment ensures their longevity. Regular maintenance, like water changes, supports their health.

Ideal Tank Setup

To create a thriving environment, replicate their natural habitat. Specifically, a spacious tank with plants and driftwood suits them. Moreover, stable water conditions are crucial. To replicate its natural habitat:

  • Maintain water temperature between 26°C–28°C.
  • Keep pH between 6.5–7.5 for optimal health.
  • Use a tank of at least 200 liters for ample space.
  • Add tall plants and hiding spots to mimic rivers.

Compatible Tank Mates

Choosing suitable companions prevents conflicts. Since they’re semi-aggressive, pair them with fish of similar temperament. Suitable tank mates include:

  • Larger tetras, like Serpae or Black Skirt Tetras.
  • Peaceful cichlids, such as Bolivian Rams.
  • Bottom-dwellers, like Corydoras catfish.
  • Non-aggressive barbs, such as Rosy Barbs.

Diet and Feeding

Blue Zebra Angelfish are carnivorous, requiring a protein-rich diet. Therefore, offer high-quality flakes, frozen brine shrimp, or bloodworms. Additionally, feed them twice daily in small portions. This approach prevents overfeeding and keeps water clean.

Breeding and Behaviour of Blue Zebra Angelfish

These fish are egg-layers, often breeding in pairs. During spawning, they become territorial, so provide flat surfaces like leaves. Additionally, their semi-aggressive nature means they may chase smaller fish. Thus, monitor tank dynamics closely.
